Amanda Brugel

Pointe Claire, a quiet neighborhood located in the West Island of Montreal is what you might call a "sleepy" location. The West Island can be confusing for those who aren't familiar with its meaning. They often believe it's an island located that lies west of Montreal However, it is actually a part of the city. West Island encompasses everything between the cities in Lachine and West. The West Island is frequently referred to as the location of birth of Amanda Brugel but while that is the case, her time there was not long. Brugel grew on Courtice located just outside Oshawa in Ontario. The first goal she had was to become an actress, but after a sudden increase in size, her friends could no longer dance along with her. In a recent interview with the Toronto Star, she confessed that "In heels, I'm 6 feet, 1 inch." When I grew out of male companions at that point, I gave up. Many ex-dancers switch to acting. In Brugel's case it was the guidance by her drama instructor at her high school which pushed her to the path she needed. Her teacher suggested she audition to play the character of Anne in the school's annual production. She was able to audition and be cast as Anne of Green Gables. It led to her receiving a Fine Arts Talent Scholarship from York University. In 2000 she graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts at York University. The career of Brugel spans more than 20 years and she has appeared in 60 different productions that have screened on large screens and on smaller ones. The most well-known role she played was that of Rita (pictured beneath) on The Handmaid's Tale. Brugel was the sole Canadian actress in Season 1 and was only seen at times.
